EC to register new voters from Sept 12 for District Level Elections

 In a press released the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Mrs.  Jean Mensa from Tuesday, September 12 to Monday, October 2, 2023, the Electoral Commission will open the register for the registration of new electorate in advance of the District Level Elections.

The commission has announced that the District Level Elections will take place on Tuesday, December 19, 2023.


 


Apart from the Nkoranza North and Nkoranza South districts in the Bono East Region where the elections will not be held, all other Electoral Areas totaling 6,272 could have their elections on December 19.


 


The Electoral Commission is hoping to register 1,350,000 new voters by the close of the Registration workout this 12 months.

Giving information at a press briefing in Accra on Thursday, August 17, Chairperson of the EC, Mrs Jean Mensa indicated that at the time of the remaining registration exercise in 2020, the National Identification Authority (NIA) had registered over 10 million men and women.

Hackers use VPN provider's code certificate to sign malware

  The China-aligned APT (advanced persistent threat) group known as 'Bronze Starlight' was seen targeting the Southeast Asian gambling industry with malware signed using a valid certificate used by the Ivacy VPN provider. The main benefit of using a valid certificate is to bypass security measures, avoid raising suspicions with system alerts, and blend in with legitimate software and traffic. According to SentinelLabs, which analyzed the campaign, the certificate belongs to PMG PTE LTD, a Singaporean vendor of the VPN product 'Ivacy VPN.' The cyberattacks observed in March 2023 are likely a later phase of the 'Operation ChattyGoblin' that ESET identified in a Q4 2022 – Q1 2023 report.
